Vanilla Glazed Baked Donuts

  • Author: Mary
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 12 donuts 1x

Description

These soft and fluffy baked donuts are the perfect treat for breakfast or a sweet snack. Topped with a simple vanilla glaze, they offer just the right amount of sweetness without being too overpowering. Plus, they’re baked, not fried, making them a slightly healthier option for donut lovers. You can customize them with food coloring or sprinkles for a festive touch!

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Donuts:

    • 1 cup (120 g) all-purpose flour

    • ⅓ cup (70 g) granulated sugar

    • 1 teaspoon baking powder

    • ½ teaspoon salt

    • 2 tablespoons (28 g) unsalted butter, melted

    • 1 egg, at room temperature

    • ⅓ cup + 1 ½ tablespoons (100 ml) skim milk, at room temperature

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    For the Vanilla Glaze:

    • ½ cup (80 g) powdered sugar, sifted

    • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

    • 1 small pinch of salt

    • 1 or 2 tablespoons milk (adjust based on desired consistency)

    • Optional: food coloring and sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  • For the Donuts:

    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan or lightly spray it with non-stick cooking spray.

    2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.

    3. In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter, egg, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.

    4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—it’s okay if there are a few lumps.

    5. Spoon the batter into the donut pan, filling each well about ¾ full.

    6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the donuts comes out clean.

    7. Remove the donuts from the oven and let them cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

    For the Vanilla Glaze:

    1. In a small bowl, whisk together the sifted powdered sugar, vanilla extract, pinch of salt, and 1 tablespoon of milk. Stir until smooth.

    2. If the glaze is too thick, add an additional tablespoon of milk to reach your desired consistency. If it’s too thin, add a bit more powdered sugar to thicken.

    3. Once the donuts have cooled, dip the tops into the glaze. Let the excess drip off and place the glazed donuts on a wire rack.

    4. Optional: Add food coloring to the glaze for a pop of color, or top with sprinkles for a fun finishing touch.

Notes

  • If you don’t have a donut pan, you can use a muffin pan, but your donuts will turn out more like muffins.

  • To make the donuts even fluffier, you can substitute some of the all-purpose flour with cake flour.

  • The glaze can be customized with different flavors or colors for a fun twist.
