Ingredients
Scale
-
For the Cobbler:
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
For the Topping:
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or a similar-sized pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, whole milk, and vanilla extract. Stir in the sugar, flour, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- In a separate bowl, combine the brown sugar with the hot water. Carefully pour the brown sugar mixture over the batter in the baking dish—do not stir.
- In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon for the topping. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the cobbler.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the cobbler is golden brown and the sauce has thickened. The top will be slightly crispy, while the inside will be soft and gooey.
- Let the cobbler cool for a few minutes before serving. It’s delicious on its own or served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- The hot water and brown sugar mixture create a delicious syrup that seeps into the batter as it bakes, giving the cobbler its signature gooey texture.
- For an added twist, you can sprinkle some chopped nuts (like walnuts or pecans) over the top before baking.
- This dessert can be made ahead of time and reheated, though it’s best served warm and fresh from the oven.
