Description

Start your morning with a decadent treat! This Overnight Crème Brûlée French Toast features rich, caramelized flavors with a creamy, melt-in-your-mouth texture. It’s an easy, make-ahead breakfast or brunch option that’s perfect for special occasions or lazy weekends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, melt butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup over medium heat until smooth and combined.
  • Pour the sugar mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
  • Arrange the slices of French bread in the baking dish in a single layer.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half cream, vanilla extract, orange zest, and salt until smooth.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, ensuring all slices are fully coated and soaked.
  • Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight, allowing the bread to absorb the egg mixture.
  • The next day, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Remove the dish from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the French toast is golden brown and puffed up.
  • Serve hot, and enjoy with syrup, whipped cream, or fresh fruit, if desired.

Notes

  • For a more indulgent treat, serve with a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of maple syrup.
  • This recipe can be made ahead, allowing you to have a delicious breakfast with minimal effort the next morning.
  • If you don’t have French bread, you can substitute with challah or brioche for a richer flavor.
