Lebanese Agave Syrup & Lemon Hummus

  • Author: Mary
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

This Lebanese-style hummus is a unique twist on the classic, featuring the natural sweetness of agave syrup and a bright, zesty touch of lemon. The smooth and creamy texture, combined with the subtle sweetness from the agave and the tanginess of the lemon, makes this hummus a delightful dip, spread, or appetizer. It pairs perfectly with pita bread, veggies, or as a topping for grilled meats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 cup tahini (sesame paste)
  • 2 tablespoons agave syrup
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons water (or more, for desired consistency)
  • Fresh parsley or mint for garnish (optional)
  • Extra olive oil for drizzling (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Blend the ingredients: In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, tahini, agave syrup, lemon juice, olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, and salt. Blend until smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
  • Adjust the consistency: Gradually add water, one tablespoon at a time, until the hummus reaches your desired consistency. For a creamier texture, add more water if necessary.
  • Taste and adjust: Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning if needed, adding more salt, lemon juice, or agave syrup for balance.
  • Serve: Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Drizzle with extra olive oil and garnish with fresh parsley or mint and a sprinkle of paprika.
  • Enjoy: Serve with pita bread, fresh vegetables, or as a spread on sandwiches or wraps.

Notes

  • If you prefer a less sweet hummus, reduce the amount of agave syrup to taste.
  • For extra flavor, you can roast the garlic before adding it to the hummus for a milder, sweeter garlic taste.
  • You can make this hummus a day ahead to allow the flavors to meld together more.
