Description
This Lazy Chicken Parmesan Grilled Cheese combines the best of two favorite comfort foods: crispy breaded chicken and gooey, melty cheese, all sandwiched between slices of buttery, toasted Italian bread. Topped with marinara sauce and a sprinkle of Parmesan, it’s a simple yet delicious twist on classic chicken Parmesan.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 frozen breaded chicken patties
- 2 tablespoons garlic butter (or to taste)
- 4 slices of Italian bread
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil (or to taste)
- 1 pinch garlic salt (or to taste)
- 6 thin slices provolone cheese (or mozzarella for a stretchier texture)
- 2 tablespoons shredded Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Cook the frozen breaded chicken patties according to the package instructions, either in the oven or air fryer, until crispy and heated through.
- While the chicken is cooking, spread garlic butter on one side of each slice of Italian bread.
- In a small saucepan, heat the marinara sauce over medium heat and stir in dried basil and garlic salt. Let the sauce simmer for a few minutes to blend the flavors.
- Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the oven and place it on a cutting board. Slice the patties in half if they are large to fit inside the bread slices.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place two slices of the garlic-buttered bread, butter side down, onto the skillet.
- Layer the sandwich: Place one slice of provolone cheese on each slice of bread, add a slice of the chicken patty, then top with more provolone cheese. Add a little marinara sauce on top of the chicken, and sprinkle with shredded Parmesan cheese.
- Top with the remaining slices of bread, butter side up, and cook until golden brown on both sides, flipping carefully, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Once the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted, remove from the skillet and serve hot with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For a stretchier texture, use mozzarella instead of provolone cheese.
- If you’re gluten intolerant, use gluten-free bread and chicken patties.
- For a lighter version, substitute garlic butter with a light olive oil spread.
- Feel free to add some extra veggies like spinach or bell peppers for added flavor.
