Easy Cream Cheese Danish Recipe

  • Author: Mary
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

This Easy Cream Cheese Danish uses puff pastry for a flaky, golden crust filled with sweet cream cheese and vanilla. Topped with a light Danish icing and fresh strawberries, it’s the perfect pastry for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Danish Filling:

  • 1 box puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed
  • 6 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons sugar, divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, whisked with 1 tablespoon water

Danish Icing:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

Optional:

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 4 squares (you should have 8 squares in total).
  • In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese, 1 tablespoon sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  • Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each puff pastry square. Fold the corners of the pastry towards the center, creating a pouch-like shape.
  • Brush the edges of the pastry with the egg wash (whisked egg with water) to help seal them.
  • Arrange the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  • While the pastries are baking, prepare the Danish icing by whisking together the powdered sugar and heavy cream until smooth.
  • Once the pastries have cooled slightly, drizzle with the icing. If desired, top with fresh strawberries for extra flavor and color.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • You can replace the cream cheese filling with fruit preserves or a different flavored cream cheese if desired.
  • If you prefer a sweeter icing, you can add a little more powdered sugar to taste.
  • Make sure your puff pastry is fully thawed before using for the best texture.
