  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (10 oz) package refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook Italian sausage, onion, and bell peppers over medium heat until sausage is browned and vegetables are tender. Drain any excess grease.
  • Stir in garlic, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Press pizza dough into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish.
  • Spoon sausage mixture into the dough-lined dish.
  • Bake for 20 minutes.
  • Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the top and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let stand for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add some crushed red pepper flakes or Parmesan cheese on top before baking.
  • This deep-dish pizza pie is best served fresh, but leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • You can add more veggies like mushrooms or olives to customize the filling to your taste.
