Description
These Chocolate Turtle Apple Slices combine the crispness of apples with the sweetness of caramel, the richness of milk chocolate, and the crunch of toasted pecans or walnuts. A perfect balance of sweet, salty, and crunchy, these delightful treats are easy to make and incredibly satisfying!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, cored and sliced into rings)
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (toasted, if preferred)
- 1 tbsp sea salt (optional, for a salty-sweet flavor)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for extra flavor)
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples:
Slice the apples into rings about 1/2-inch thick, and remove the core. You can also cut them into wedges if you prefer. - Melt the Chocolate:
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the milk chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring between each session until fully melted. Alternatively, melt the chocolate over a double boiler. Stir in the vanilla extract for added flavor. - Assemble the Turtle Apple Slices:
Lay the apple slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Drizzle each apple slice with the caramel sauce, followed by a spoonful of melted chocolate. Sprinkle the chopped nuts over the chocolate and caramel, pressing them lightly into the topping. - Add the Finishing Touches:
If desired, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top of each slice for a salty-sweet contrast. Let the chocolate set for a few minutes, or refrigerate for faster results. - Serve & Enjoy:
Once the chocolate has hardened slightly, serve immediately or store in the refrigerator for later. These can also be stored in an airtight container for 2-3 days.
Notes
- Nut-Free Version: For a nut-free option, you can skip the nuts and use crushed graham crackers or pretzel pieces for crunch.
- Caramel: If you’re using homemade caramel, ensure it’s warm enough to drizzle easily.
- Variety: Experiment with dark chocolate or white chocolate for different flavors.
