Description
This Big Mac Casserole brings the flavors of a classic Big Mac burger into an easy, comforting baked dish. Made with lean ground beef, russet potatoes, a savory cheese blend, and a Big Mac-inspired sauce, this casserole is a family favorite that’s as satisfying as it is delicious.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb lean ground beef (96/4)
- 1 lb russet potatoes, chopped
- 1/2 white onion, chopped
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (112g)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onions to the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes until they soften.
- Add the garlic powder, onion powder, yellow mustard, and water to the beef mixture, stirring to combine. Let the mixture simmer for 2–3 minutes.
- In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer the chopped potatoes at the bottom.
- Pour the beef mixture over the potatoes in the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30–40 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes to allow the cheese to melt and bubble.
- Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- If you’d like a more “Big Mac” flavor, feel free to drizzle some homemade or store-bought Thousand Island dressing over the casserole before serving.
- You can also add pickles to the top for extra crunch and tang.
- For a healthier version, you can swap out the cheddar for a lighter cheese or use a lower-fat ground beef.
